About Diary of Yunbogi
In 1964, Nagisa Oshima went to Korea and took many still photographs of poor street children. After he read the Japanese translation of Diary of Yunbogi, he decided to make a film adaptation using his photos. He combined sections of the boy¡¯s diary with a more objective narration, describing the problems faced by Korean children. This is a highly political tale chastising Japan¡¯s involvement in Korea.
